I’ve had them say they can’t hold until midnight. I waited 5/10 mins and called again…and got the flights.

I went to Jordan immediately after I was done in Egypt and had an awful flight with BA, mainly due to them turning into a budget airline and not a flag carrier and great airline they once were.
Someone said here in the comments that another fellow passenger questioned the crew, and didn’t actually believe she had been seated in Business Class that she’d paid for, expecting a lie flat seat and IFE on their flight from Amman

Hehe it’s that Caribbean charm. “Island time”. Wanted a quick bite of McDonalds, for novelty more than anything in St Croix. Fast food, more like slow food. Took 25 mins for a burger as I was trying to get attention moving and looking across the counter at people chatting in the back.

I managed to book 4 club seats using 2 new 2 4 1 vouchers to Sydney last month for travel in August. I was amazed 4 seats were available 6 months out but starting outside of London with the new vouchers does seem to open up many more options.

Trust me, you have been lucky. That you got your phone answered at all by midnight, that they didn’t pick up early and say “I can’t hold until midnight”, that there weren’t multiple people doing the same as you that night, etc. I’ve not yet won that lottery.

I’m based in Amman and can assure you that RJ same route Y is preferable to BA J

Whilst using a 2-4-1 and going via Madrid is still great value, it’s worth keeping an eye on the cash tickets too. Just incase you can find a more efficient use of avios, perhaps using them for a trip to asia where tickets are crazily priced at the moment.

For the East Coast, based on a 1p per mile valuation, VS actually offers significantly worse value than BA (all-in, UC/J).

I believe both the Avios and taxes and fees are based on the distance, which BA splits into zones.

I don’t think I am lucky, actually. All I do is call 15 minutes before the seats are available – go through BA’s security questions and then they get them.

I managed to do the same with Bangkok before covid – another very popular route.

If you’re willing to be on the phones at that hour (I got my return flights to Sydney at 3am Qatar time!) then you have a high chance of getting them.
