Just to confirm, as I cancelled my Amex Platinum at the end of December 2021 I’m technically now eligible for the bonus again? I’ll probably wait a bit to apply but in theory I could apply now? Wasn’t sure if it was the date the last statement I’d posted or whatever.

In reply to solith1. I suspect it does count, even though it is restricted to a certain group. Same with the Harrods Amex.

Do you know if the Vitality American Express card counts as a personal card when considering sign-up bonus qualification? I’m waiting out the 24 month cool down period since my last Amex, and the Vitality card would be a nice intermediary so long as it doesn’t disqualify me from sign-up bonuses ~12 months from now.

In reply to dennis. No, it resets to zero spend on your card anniversary date. You can though spend £10,000 on your anniversary date (say, a refundable hotel booking), trigger the voucher, then cancel the £10,000 spend for a refund. Amex won't cancel the voucher.

Once you get the companion voucher, can you carry on spending to another £9999, then stop using the card until one year is up from the voucher issue date, then spend the final £1 and get the next voucher straight away. I think I read that some of the H for P team have done this?, but amex chat tells me this is now possible and the spending for the next vouchers has to all come in the next membership year.

In reply to Bobbie. Search for the flights you want from London as origin and return airport. If you find availability, call BA and they will book the flight, including the domestic connections for no additional Avios (you will be charged any domestic airport fees though)

Slightly off topic. But someone here will know for sure! I have an upgrade voucher via the Barclaycard avios card. Live in Scotland and not getting any results when looking to use voucher to USA but starting from Edinburgh, when I so the same search from any London – USA getting lots of options, is this a glitch? As the Amex comp voucher works no bother from Edinburgh when connecting? Thanks in advance!

In reply to Iain. Until they stop pro-rata refunds you can cancel whenever you want. I'm not sure if they round up the next full month or not.

If you don’t want to pay the annual fee for Platinum do you need to cancel before the annual payment or can you cancel afterwards and get a pro-rata refund? How do you know when your annual payment is due?

In reply to Jake. If you like the Plat, the best is to keep it for 24 months per person then switch partner so you can get bonuses. Noting you can still get BAPP per person too.

Hi I just need to confirm this as I cocked up my timings in 2021;

I’m eligible for the Platinum Card 75k/100k bonus now and BAPP bonus in June 2024 because I cancelled my Preferred Rewards Gold card in Nov 2021 and cancelled my BAPP in June 2022 and have only been a supplementary card holder since?

I have an AMEX gold card and received an offer to upgrade to Platinum and receive the sign up bonus. So didnt have to cancel and then wait 2 years. Ive already received a pro rata refund for my AMEX gold fee so all appears genuine

I’m in my first year of platinum card membership, I’ve noticed that the dining, Harvey Nichols offers have reset today meaning I essentially get them twice for one membership fee? I like the platinum card for the airport lounges and other benefits, but is changing the card into my partners name and vice versa every 12 months “optimum strategy”?

Will Amex beat its personal best 75k Platinum SUB in 2024? Yes, there’s an extra 25k of SUB in month 15, but 99% of the comments under articles and in various threads refers to the 75k and when is the deadline for cancelling. 75k looks quite paltry vs the 70k on BAPP this time last year and the 75k/25k split SUB doesn’t appear to affect the presumably hoped for effect, although when added to a retention bonus ought to make a pretty good 15 month return.
