Do you earn extra Avios if you book with BA Holidays?
BA Holidays are packaged by British Airways and normally include flights, car rental and sometimes hotel bookings. In this article we’ll look at how many Avios you can earn if you book your trip with BA Holidays.
As well as earning Avios, BA Holidays can also save you money AND let you delay paying for your trip.
If you were planning on renting a car or booking a hotel for your holiday booking with BA Holidays can make a lot of sense.
Not only is it often cheaper to book both a flight and a hotel or car together rather than separately – since British Airways offers special air fares for ‘package’ prices – but you will also earn bonus Avios.
The BA Holidays home page says:
“As an Executive Club Member, you can collect 1 bonus Avios for every £1 you spend on flights and hotel and flights and car packages and hotels, cars and sightseeing when booked separately or added to a flight booking.”
There is another benefit too. If you use a British Airways American Express Premium Plus credit card to pay for your BA Holidays package, you will earn double Avios (3 per £1) from American Express.
And, of course, you will also earn Avios from your flights as usual.
This make BA Holidays a unique ‘triple dip’:
1 Avios per £1 given by BA Holidays
3 Avios per £1 given by American Express if you pay with a British Airways Premium Plus credit card
standard Avios from your BA flight when you travel
Until 31st December 2023 it gets even better. You will double tier points on your flights if you book a 5+ night ‘flight and hotel’ or ‘flight and car’ package. Your flights need to carry a BA flight number even if operated by another airline. The double tier points will post within 14 days of your flight and will make it a lot to easier to gain or retain your British Airways Executive Club status.
BA Holidays can ease your cash flow too!
There is one other benefit of booking with BA Holidays.
You only need to pay a deposit now. The balance is not due until 5-7 weeks before departure.
This essentially lets you turn a non-refundable flight into a ‘quite a lot refundable’ one! If you change your mind about travelling, you simply do not make the final payment. You WILL lose your deposit, of course, but this is a lot cheaper than losing your entire payment, which is what would happen if you had booked a ‘flight only’ trip with British Airways.
