Decent Tokyo to Sydney First Class Avios availability on JAL – at a price

On 31st May, Japan Airlines is swapping the Boeing 787 currently used between Tokyo and Sydney for a larger Boeing 777.

This means that First Class seating will become available on this route.

At the moment, a decent chunk of dates have these seats available for Avios because Japan Airlines is a oneworld alliance member, alongside British Airways.

We’ve never reviewed the JAL SUITE in First Class but it looks pretty swanky – a fully enclosed suite – as the JAL website shows here.

Small it is not:

A return trip from Tokyo to Sydney in JAL First Class will cost 206,000 Avios + £597, as you can see here:

The good news is that availability is pretty decent for one person from 1st June 2024 onwards. Some dates even had two seats when I looked last night.

Of course, you also need to get to Tokyo which isn’t exactly an easy win for Avios. However, for anyone who likes to tick off leading First Class seats, this is an interesting opportunity.

Hat-tip to 2paxfly.

Adding this for the minority, but availability doesn’t seem as good using QF points (but some is still there). 129,300 QFF each way, same taxes/fees.
