How to earn Marriott points flying Emirates and Emirates status benefits at Marriott hotels

  I don’t know anything about the Skywards scheme, and don’t have any plans to fly Emirates. But…. it really goes against the grain to pass up miles in any scheme, as you never know when personal plans or opportunities to exchange between schemes will change. Are there any pitfalls to be aware of (I vaguely recall some comments about auto expiry)?

  I have an expensive 9 night stay at Domes Noruz next week, so the potential to earn a chunk of Skywards miles in addition to my Marriott points is somewhat appealing!

    Hard expiry, yes – but you can always cash out into easyJet credit or Heathrow Rewards.

        No. The Heathrow points are ring-fenced for parking and shopping vouchers only.

          Not ideal but still hugely useful to many of us who won’t use Emirates Skywards miles before they expire, and need to park up while away !

  The registration page you link to at the end says that if you’re a Skywards blue member you won’t earn any miles for stays at Marriott properties? Only silver and above members can miles from hotel stays. If true, that seems like an important omission from the article.

    The article clearly says that you need to be Skywards Silver upwards to earn miles and have benefits.

    ‘If you are an Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold or Platinum member you will receive 1 Skywards mile for every $1 you spend in a Marriott Bonvoy hotel. Importantly, this is in addition to the Marriott Bonvoy points that you already receive. It is a genuine extra benefit.’

      I read it twice before I posted because I was sure it would have been mentioned! My 4 hours sleep has clearly had a bigger negative impact on my cognitive abilities than I realised – sorry! Seems like no point in signing up then despite my impending expensive Domes stay. 😢

  I got an invitation from Marriott to sign up for this a few years ago. I was not a member of Skywards, and only Marriott Silver from holding the Marriott credit card.

  I get about two worthwhile special extra points offers a year, over and above all the usual bonus offers as published here, and always sign up for them, in case I can actually justify a paid-for Marriott stay (usually I cannot – mostly there is no Marriott where I want to stay, and if there is, it is too expensive, but maybe one day…).

  Signed up to this some years ago with the 1500 points offer as I’m Bonvoy Platinum and fly Emirates fairly often. Marriott points have always posted immediately after an Emirates flight, but having only blue status with Emirates I dont get extra points for hotel stays.
  I do however value and use the priority boarding. Problem is there is never any signage or announcements for priority boarding “Your World Rewards” or Marriott Platinum/Titanium members, so up until now I have just joined the queue, shown my ticket and boarded. I have never once been stopped or questioned even when on an economy ticket, just waved through. I keep expecting to be challenged, so I always have a “Your World Rewards” screenshot on hand should I have to fight my corner at the scanner. A lot of needless anxiety tbh, and I have to do it every time.
  Other than that as Rob says, signing up is a no brainer.
