I signed up for the Barclaycard avios plus 16th of May to get the 50k offer for a 3k spend within 3 months.
I made my last purchase on 15th of august before the deadline to take me over the 3k threshold, a BA flight but with Expedia. I checked my statement and the BA ticket was billed on the 17th though I have a receipt from Expedia saying “purchase 15/8/2023 09:53”
After a long call to Barclaycard they said it should be the purchase date so I should be eligible but I would need to call BA avios. I did that and they logged it. A month later I got a no-reply email saying that “due to data protection” they are unable to help but suggest I contact Barclaycard.. I will call them again but it seems not much else one can do. It seems that these types of issues falls into an area no company knows how to handle..I signed up for the Barclaycard avios plus 16th of May to get the 50k offer for a 3k spend within 3 months.

Spend based rewards with a deadline usually require transactions to post by the deadline and a transaction doesn’t usually post on the day. The date/time of the purchase from Expedia that you have is therefore only partially helpful. The system isn’t automatically picking up your entitlement to a SUB, so you will need to persuade Barclaycard to correct the position as you did do the purchase that day but didn’t realise the rules because they hadn’t advised you. I’m afraid there is a moral in this tale – never cut these things too fine.
As per JDB very risky to leave it right to the end, with 50k Avios on the line. Hope you persuade barclaycard to award the points

A lesson too be learnt here, don’t find out the hard way that you’ve lost your welcome bonus, as people who’ve taken the word from an Amex CS agent that they last held a card over 24 months ago, but then find out the hard way, that the agent got it wrong. If you cancel a card, and plan on signing up again to get the SUB, keep hold the cancellation letter you get sent.
Plus try to avoid hitting all your spends at the last minute, if you’re a bit short, buy some gift cards for your main supermarket !
Thanks. So some update. I made numerous calls to Barclaycard and BA. They kept bouncing me between them BC saying it is a BA Avios issue, BA saying it is for Barclaycard. Eventually a helpful lady from Barclaycard called me and explained that they had carefully looked at my issue and unfortunately the rules are that the “spend needs to be within the 3 month period”. So it doesn’t matter when the purchase was made but it is when the merchant bothers processing it. This is very strict. So it is not their fault that the retailer (Expedia UK) and BA took a day to process the transaction, which carried it over the deadline by one day. BA has a seemingly antiquated booking system so it can take a while, especially travel agent ticketing.
As there were other reasons why I waited til so late, the card not turning up for over a month due to postal issues in my area, they at their discretion, credited me for the card fee for 6 months, which is nice. The only reason I used Expedia for this BA ticket was that I this particular journey started outside the UK, and BA can only charge in the local currency when booked directly through them. I wanted to avoid the 2.99% foreign transaction fee on the BC. Expedia UK isued the ticket for roughly the same original price as BA would have directly but charged me in British pounds. Well in the end it cost me 50k points..
Have a look at the T+C – what do they say exactly?
When did the transaction show as pending on your Barclaycard account, or when was that sum removed from your available balance?
If Expedia/BA didn’t charge anything until the 17th then you’re out of luck. If they actually charged your card on the 15th but it didn’t get confirmed until the 17th I think you should be able to formulate a complaint about it. It’s not exactly clear from what you’ve posted.
