Final leg home tonight, I’m sure it’s been asked before but what’s my best option for lounges at HKG? Flying BA Club World.

Cathay – any! I get them mixed up but the Wing and the Pier are both good – depends on the gate you’re flying from as it’s a big airport.

    How was the Conrad?

@qc Thanks. Switched to the IC Grand Stanford to save the Hilton points for London in the summer. Big mistake, worst IC I’ve stayed in.

Painful experience at the IC Westlake in Hanoi last night. Checked-in late and upgraded to a junior suite…all good so far.

But the key cards didn’t work. Reception staff then came along and affectively forced the door opened and took our bags in only to be greeted by a very angry customer who was already occupying the room! It took them another 20mins to try and figure out what happened and reassign us another room (I think the customer shared the same surname as me and they assigned him my room). Anyway, expecting the manager to get in touch this morning with a proper explanation before we thankfully move onto the MGallery in the old quarter.

Oh dear – but thanks as it will save us staying there in November!

@qc To be fair it’s not the worst, it’s the second worst. It’s not as bad as Chennai!

Reading the not so pleasurable hotel experiences make my sofitel Noosa experience not too bad. However, there was a hair in the room, and it definitely wasn’t ours. We found other peoples hair bobbles down the side of the bed. The sunbed towels were filthy. I asked for late check on the day of arrival (Accor gold) to be told I need to enquire on the day of departure.

I couldn’t be bothered this morning as we were almost ready to leave but at 11:45 house keeping knocked on the room asking if we were ready to leave then had a phone call at 12:00.

Now we are driving in the pouring down rain to Brisbane for the night. Think I will look at a caravan in Scarborough for June.

Not sure if this has been covered (have had a look but couldn’t see anything), but seems like Bonvoy has a new promotion running.

“Earn 1,000 Bonus Points & 1 Bonus Elite Night Credit Each Night.”

Seems like a no-brainer and very similar to the one I think they ran last year 🙂

The Wing! Lovely lounge with plenty of food / drink offering. Has a noodle bar too- much better than LHR T3 cathay noodle bar!

The Wing Business class lounge was very busy when I was there. The Deck or the Qantas lounge will be the closest to the BA gates.

So many questions if that was correct. Don’t they check passports or any other id? Surely the first name difference would’ve been obvious?
Also if they had already assigned that room, the system must show it as taken?

I have a problem I am hoping fellow hfpers can help me with. Booked PE tickets on Air Canada from Toronto to Calgary in June as it was a 787 rather than usual A320. AC have now changed the plane to an A319, changed the time slightly and downgraded us to economy. All the refund options they have offered so far are credits to AC which are zero use to us. They refuse to refund in cash. Has anyone got any suggestions to get a full refund in cash? Many thanks.

Has AC changed the flight number or is it still the same flight with a time change?

If it’s a new flight number I think you have more options. If not I think you might have a problem

I know that for a flight cancellation and a rebooking that does not suit your needs you can insist on a refund of all unused segments. Not sure if the refund d has to be in cash or whether vouchers are acceptable.

Take a look at this website

    https://rppa-appr.ca/eng/know-your-rights

The alternative is to contact your credit card company and try a s75 claim as the flight no longer I what you bought – an economy flight is not the same as a PE one. This assumes you bought the tickets on a UK credit card and it cost more than £100 per ticket

Canada has its own, but not identical, version of UK/EU261 so I’d start there but I’m not 100% sure if it covers downgrades or not.

Otherwise it’s whatever is in ACs T&Cs

I would strongly advocate the Cathay Pacific *The Pier* lounge, it has the best hard product of the J lounges, a full noodle bar, a calm, quiet tea room area and even some relaxation loungers at the back if you fancy a pre-flight snooze.

The bar tenders will mix an excellent cocktail, including most of the classics not listed on the menu.

When you get near boarding time, head to the Qantas lounge for a final night cap to enjoy opposite the gate the flight boards from.

Those Canadian rules are also really principally about on the day disruption and getting you to your destination (which they are doing) rather than downgrades, so as above, the T&Cs of your fare will govern the situation. s75 doesn’t really help on a non-refundable fare, even if the airline has messed you about for what they will say are operational reasons and probably the difference in price between PE and Y doesn’t amount to much.

The best solution is going to be to press AC, having got them to any sort of refund, to make that cash.

Thanks. Useful info which I will put to good use in a few weeks myself.
Hopefully the Mandarin Oriental will be a better experience than Strickers at the Stamford

I’m on the starter level (was given 3 months free).

I’ve already spent £250 which is the rewards cap.

Is there any benefit in still putting through more debit card spend?

Also my chosen perk is asda. Do I need to spend £10 there and get £10refunded as a perk?

Great catch but it’s always the flights home that seems hardest (other than US) – really got my eyes peeled for F seats home from Asia in May, currently in old style CW from SIN on A380 and don’t want to be!

Worked for us because we are continuing SIN-TYO-HEL-LHR. Just changed our old CW flights on the A380 for F on the 787. Cost an extra £362 plus 27000 Avios. Probably wouldn’t have been worth it if we had been returning from SIN due to the peculiarities of RFS pricing.

Why do they have availability outbound but not return? 😕

@Jill Kinkell – you will be just fine at the Mandarin which remains one of the great hotels of the world. If you haven’t been before, don’t expect to be impressed by the lobby on arrival!

I’m not really surprised by the comments re the IC; the standard of hotels in HK is very high and they can’t compete, so have to offer cheaper rates leading to a downward spiral.

InConsistent hotels suffer from the same issues also reported above with a SoSofitel; supposedly upper tier brands that house good, OK and bad examples with a ‘parent’ that doesn’t care enough to do anything about it.

@JDB I think it was yourself that commented that Man Wah was excellent, it was.
